چکیده

The growth and ordering of C60 molecules on the WO2/W(110) surface have been studied by low-temperature scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results indicate the growth of a well-ordered C60 layer on the WO2/W(110) surface in which the molecules form a close-packed hexagonal structure with a unit cell parameter equal to 0.95 nm. The nucleation of the C60 layer starts at the substrate’s inner step edges. Low-temperature STM of C60 molecules performed at 78 K demonstrates wellresolved molecular orbitals within individual molecules. In the C60 monolayer on the WO2/W(110) surface, the molecules are aligned in one direction due to intermolecular interaction, as shown by the ordered molecular orbitals of individual C60. STS data obtained from the C60 monolayer on the WO2/W(110) surface are in good agreement with DFT calculations.

Molecular self-assembly of functionalized fullerenes on a metal surface.

We present a combined experimental and theoretical study of the self-assembly of C60 molecules functionalized with long alkane chains on the (111) surface of silver. We find that the conformation of the functionalized C60 changes upon adsorption on Ag(111) and that the unit cell size in the self-assembled monolayer is determined by the interactions between the functional groups. We show that C6...

Formate dehydrogenase molybdenum and tungsten sites--observation by EXAFS of structural differences.

Preliminary EXAFS data has been collected on the molybdenum (K-edge) in C. pasteurianum formate dehydrogenase and the tungsten (LIII-edge) in C. thermoaceticum formate dehydrogenase. In the presence of dithionite, the tungsten enzyme was devoid of W = O bonds, and exhibited average W-(O, N) and W-S bond lengths of 2.13 +/- 0.03 A and 2.39 +/- 0.03 A, respectively. In sharp contrast, the C. past...

Formation and reinforcement of clusters composed of C60 molecules

We carry out two experiments: (1) the formation of clusters composed of C60 molecules via self-assembly and (2) the reinforcement of the clusters. Firstly, clusters such as fibres and helices composed of C60 molecules are produced via self-assembly in supercritical carbon dioxide. However, C60 molecules are so weakly bonded to each other in the clusters that the clusters are broken by the irrad...
